Hi all, I'm recommending this site to you guys because I think it's pretty useful as a one-stop site for you to find what you need.
http://www.k12imc.org/classroom/humanities/humanities/literature/teaching.php
1. One-stop Literature resource
The site links to a number of very useful websites that you can look at when searching for teaching resources. One of the sites is www.rayser.ca, where a teacher and a number of contributors provide lesson plans and hand outs that have been used and refined numerous times in the classroom. They provide resources on literature and poetry, and even writing! Interestingly, there is a lesson plan on introducing music into the classroom to teach poetry, and an Iron Maiden song was chosen. It was used to talk about ethnicity. The teacher even incorporated a lesson on verbs using the song!
2. Resource for Evaluative Tools
While most websites talk predominantly of interesting lesson ideas, K12 included a section on
assessment and evaluative tools. It includes links to software systems and analyses rubrics. I stumbled upon a very interesting software called Classinhand. Basically, the software allows for data collection of quiz and feedback. For example, the quizzing feature enables the teacher to give questions with multiple choice answers, and students responses can be seen immediately. Of course, this software requires an extensive use of ICT, but being proficient in its usage will definitely make quizzing and feedback giving in class more efficient in the long run.
3. Student Resource Center
Apart from teachers, the website also carters to our need to provide students with resources. The website links us to many websites that will be very useful for our students to have on hand. Besides free dictionaries and encyclopedias, the website also links us to a variety of websites that provide free e-books. A website called Classics Literature gives access to texts such as Greeks Ovid and Plato. These will come in handy if the physical copies are not readily available to the students or are not stocked in the school library.
Some of the resources available on the website may not be as relevant to us, because it first and foremost caters to an American classroom, such as the links to grant programs for American schools. But there's still a lot that we can take from the website. I hope you find the website useful!
