Hello everyone!
Here's the url: Short Stories at East of the Web
Three things I liked about this website:
1) Easy Access to Resources
The short stories are classified according to genres and are even rated accordingly to age groups! Also, all these short stories are actually available for download and/or printing, so teachers do not fret about having to sign up an account before gaining access to the materials. The number of pages are also indicated for you so you can have a rough idea of whether it is too long/short for your lesson plan/s.
2) Games, Games, Games!
There are numerous interactive word games available for the students to play around, and they come in different forms. There are games where the students can attempt on their own, or pit their wits against each other. You can customize your own word quiz by setting up a study room here and inviting your students to play the game/s!
3) Teaching Resources
There are a few study questions and activities available on the website, and they are currently looking into building up an online resource of teaching materials provided by qualified teachers.
Have to agree with Lisa on her first point- it's a relief being able to get resources without signing up for anything. Anyways, I like the concept of this website, using short stories to teach. I think short stories are a good way to get children interested in reading. My secondary school Lit teacher did that when we were in Sec 1, she sort of eased us into reading by introducing short stories first. I remember that she gave the alternative version of Little Red Riding Hood and we all had been so engaged with the text. Think it also had been a good way to teach perspective. The short stories here have been organized according to genre so it's easy for teachers to pick according to their mood. Like! *thumbs-up*
