Charissa - http://www.teachervision.fen.com/literature/teacher-resources/6641.html

I have chosen this website because of the amount of resources offered. While many of the resources are free, you might have to pay to access some. However, I do think that this is a good resource that schools can purchase for teachers.

1. Getting to Know Each Other Through Poetry
This idea is especially useful for new teachers, entering a classroom for the first time to teach Literature. It can be used as an ice-breaker activity, and to dispel student's misconceptions about learning literature. It offers teachers a chance to get to know their students better and therefore cater to their learning needs.

2. Fall into Rhyme - http://www.teachervision.fen.com/tv/printables/FallintoRhyme.pdf
This is a suggestion on a way to teach rhyme and rhyme scheme. By giving students a simple poem to start of with, they are introduced to the idea of rhyme by having to identify it and add on to other similar rhyming words. This activity demands that students write their own poems to learn about rhyming, beginning from the most basic ABAB. As an add-on, students are asked to edit their poems and add in details like imagery, figurative language or sensory words to move their writing away from amateurish writing. This can make students more aware of their writing and, more sensitive of the details and techniques used in their reading material.

3. Secondary Literature Guides - The Pearl
This is essentially a "lesson plan" on teaching books like "The Pearl". This provides a lesson plan complete with pre-reading, main and post-reading activities. It reminds teachers of the need to review the plot and explain it to the students before delving into teaching the text properly, even if all the students have read the book because reading does not necessarily mean total comprehension.

Thanks,
Charissa

  1. It really has a lot of resources!
I really like the lesson on rhyme and rhyme scheme. I like the fact that it employs learning by doing. It will really help the students to remember the rhyme scheme better.
